Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides an elevated level of care for individuals whose mental health needs exceed what can be addressed in traditional weekly therapy sessions. This program is tailored for those experiencing complex or severe mental health challenges, such as generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, and personality disorders. It is designed to deliver accelerated results through a structured yet flexible treatment approach, allowing individuals to access intensive therapy while maintaining their daily lives.
Structure of the Program
Our IOP offers a personalised treatment plan that includes a combination of Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, and other therapeutic interventions. The program is flexible enough to accommodate various lifestyles, with participants living at home while attending therapy. This gives them the opportunity to apply newly acquired coping skills directly into their day-to-day routines, creating a real-time integration of therapeutic progress.
-
Clients will attend multiple extended-length therapy sessions per week, with each session lasting around 2 hours. These sessions allow for deeper exploration and intensive treatment to address the individual’s mental health challenges, fostering quicker progress than traditional therapy. This increased focus helps participants work through complex issues more effectively, giving them the tools needed to manage their symptoms in daily life.
-
Recognising the importance of a supportive environment, Family Therapy is incorporated into the programme. Participants will engage in at least one extended family therapy session per week, also lasting 2 hours. Family involvement is highly encouraged, including adults and minors, as it can provide crucial support during recovery. We understand that family dynamics vary, and it can be challenging to include them; however, their participation often strengthens relationships and creates a healthier environment for long term recovery.
For minors, it is mandatory for at least one parent or guardian to actively participate in the healing process. This ensures that younger participants receive the support and understanding they need from their family during this critical time. Families will gain insight into their loved one’s experience, understand their role in the recovery process, and learn how to offer ongoing support and encouragement.
-
In addition to traditional therapy sessions, our IOP incorporates a variety of therapeutic modalities and skills training to equip participants with a diverse toolkit for managing their mental health. This may include art therapy, music therapy, and experiential learning activities that promote self-expression and emotional processing. Participants will also engage in skills training focused on practical strategies such as stress management, assertiveness training, and problem-solving techniques. By integrating these modalities, individuals can explore alternative avenues for healing, fostering creativity and resilience while enhancing their overall therapeutic experience. This holistic approach not only addresses symptoms but also empowers participants to build lasting skills that support their journey toward recovery.
Mode of Program
-
Participants with mental health challenges often struggle with attending sessions in the morning. Online sessions improve the participation rate and start the day with structure.
-
Many therapeutic approaches require attendance in person to gain maximum benefits. Participants also benefit from getting out of the house each day and learning to interact in person in a safe environment.
Program Flexibility & Commitment
While the IOP offers a higher level of care than standard weekly therapy, it remains flexible enough to fit into participants' daily lives. The program's adaptable structure ensures that participants can balance their personal or professional responsibilities while dedicating time to their recovery. Participants can select their own commitment level in the program.
Commitment Range:
Minimum commitment: One 2-hour block per day (include Two 10-min breaks), 3 days a week
Maximum commitment: Three 2-hour block per day (include Two 10-min breaks), 5 days a week
This flexibility enables participants to tailor the program to their needs while maintaining regular attendance, which is crucial for making meaningful progress. The intensity and consistency of the therapy sessions contribute to the program’s effectiveness.
Multidisciplinary Care Team
Participants will have access to a team of mental health professionals who collaborate to provide comprehensive care. The team typically includes:
Psychologists
Counsellors
Parenting/career Specialists/Coaches
Each professional brings their expertise to the program, ensuring that participants receive well-rounded and targeted support throughout their journey.
Sample IOP for Anxiety Disorder
“The individualized IOP will contain several core components. These core elements help participants build essential coping skills that can be applied immediately to their everyday lives. Additionally, the program can be customised to include specific skill development areas relevant to the client’s individual circumstances. For example, for students, for professional, for homemaker, etc.”
Our Therapeutic Approach
Our IOP integrates evidence-based therapeutic modalities to support recovery. These include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to reframe negative thought patterns
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for managing emotions and improving interpersonal relationships
Mindfulness Practice to reduce stress and enhance emotional resilience
Family Therapy to strengthen family dynamics and foster a supportive environment
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy to work with traumatic memories, body sensations, core self-beliefs, and emotions
Brainspotting therapy to help clients process difficult emotions and/or traumatic experiences using the brain’s innate self-healing function
Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) to assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma
Somatic Experiencing to help clients access and address past traumatic energy that still lingers in the body, allowing the client to work through emotional symptoms, including feelings of anger, guilt, or shame
Narrative Therapy helps clients to externalize anxiety as an entity. It informs clients that they and anxiety are not one such that the only issue is anxiety and not the clients
Transactional Analysis (TA) explores the unconscious drivers and injunctions governing the clients’ lives, to become more aware on how to better find solutions to navigate life
Redecision Therapy to find closure and choose to have own self-autonomy as an adult ego and not child ego
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) helps clients to focus on positive aspects of life so that clients can learn to love, cherish and respect themselves more and create healthy boundaries
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) to create a rich and meaningful life, while accepting the pain that inevitably goes with it
Theraplay® is an attachment-based therapeutic approach that uses structured play to strengthen family bonds, reduce anxiety, and build trust through joyful engagement, helping IOP patients reconnect with their support system in a gentle, playful way.
Our approach ensures that each healing modality dovetails into the others, creating a consistent and interlinked treatment experience. This integrated method allows us to be responsive to each client's development and evolving needs throughout their journey in the programme. As clients progress, we adjust the balance and focus of these therapies to provide the most effective and personalised care possible.
Transition After the Program
Following completion of the program, participants are typically transitioned to regular outpatient care to ensure continuity of support. This gradual transition allows individuals to maintain their progress and reduce the risk of relapse. The care team will work closely with each participant to establish a long-term recovery plan that meets their ongoing needs. Our IOP is designed to provide the support, structure, and flexibility necessary to help individuals overcome severe mental health challenges, fostering meaningful and sustainable change.
